Hey friends and family, near & far! The Taylor family is doing something extra special this October! We have been nominated to be Food Fighters for The Hub: Urban Ministries here in Shreveport, LA. If you aren't familiar with The Hub & what all amazing things they do for our community, I would like to take a minute and tell you a little about that first.
The Hub's main mission is to give EVERYONE in our city access to a restored life. They do this through two main programs - The Lovewell & Purchased: Not for Sale.
The Lovewell Center is a membership based resource center that gives members the opportunity to earn the physical resources they need by attending classes and programs designed to help them move out of poverty and homelessness and into a restored life. Earned credits can be used in The Lovewell stores: The Dresswell clothing store, The Smellwell laundromat, The Eatwell food store and The Stylewell hair salon.
Purchased is a program focused on helping women & children out of sex-trafficking & the sex industry.
One common denominator in both of these programs is FOOD. If you ask most of their members today how they first heard of The Hub or why they came to The Hub for the first time, it was for Food. For a free meal. A lot of us never have to worry about where our next meal will come from, but there are so many in our local community that do. And The Hub is striving to continue to feed everyone that comes to their doors and never wants to tell anyone - "Sorry, we're out of food".
Besides getting donations all year long from business partners and local donations, once a year The Hub has "The Great Food Fight" which is a friendly competition where individuals (Food Fighters) will spend the month of October competing against one another to raise the most money within their circle of influence. That's where WE need YOUR help friends!
Would you please consider donating towards this cause this month to help keep the shelves stocked at the Lovewell all year long?
No donation is too small!
Our 1st goal is to raise $2500 this month! $2500 will provide 609 meals.
Please join us in this Food Fight for good!
-- Much love, The Taylors
Did you know that there are 39,370 individuals in Caddo Parish considered food insecure? That means that they do not have consistent access to one of their most basic needs, food.
This year at The Hub, we have seen an incredible increase in individuals needing access to food through our ministries at The Lovewell and Purchased: Not for Sale.
That is why this year's Food Fight is so important to us and to our city!
The Hub is on a mission to give everyone in our city access to a restored life, and often the pathway to a fully restored life begins with something as simple as access to food. Food is a huge way that The Hub not only meets the needs of people in our city, but builds bridges of trust that allow for future recovery and restoration.
The Hub serves those who are "food insecure" through both of our ministries.
The Lovewell Center:
- 630 meals at the Lovewell Center
- 75-100 shoppers daily in the Lovewell's Eatwell food store
- Groceries provided for the Lovewell's VIP program participants.
Purchased:
- Groceries provided for Purchased: Not for Sale participants
- Groceries provided through Purchased: Not for Sale Eatwell food store
- 4 meals a month provided through Purchased: Not for Sale resource center
- Provides meals for high risk / identified child victims of human trafficking
The Great Food Fight is a chance for you to join The Hub in the fight against hunger in our city.
